Art Talks at the Library: What is Outsider Art with Pierre Leichner

May 1 - May 1
6–7 p.m.

Join Pierre Leichner, the founder of the Vancouver Outsider Art Festival (VOAF), as he explores a unique art style created by artists who have little or no formal training. This movement is often considered “outside” the mainstream art world and includes Naïve art, which emphasizes the childlike simplicity and directness of the artist’s vision.

Pierre will discuss the works of some of the best-known artists in these two styles and highlight how the pieces of West Vancouver artist Carol Shumas align with Naïve conventions. Additionally, he will examine the barriers that outsider artists face in Canada.
