Exploring Collage with Ilze Bebris

October 7 - October 7
1–3 p.m.

Join exhibiting artist Ilze Bebris for a hands-on opportunity to create at least one 12" x 12" abstract collage. Session includes guided exercises in composition and a discussion of colour and texture, offering multiple approaches to abstract collage-making.

Materials will be reviewed, along with practical tips and common pitfalls to avoid. These strategies will then be applied in the creation of a final, expressive composition.

No prior experience is required, just a willingness to explore and create. All materials will be supplied, but bring collage materials if you have some you would like to work with.

Ilze Bebris is a North Vancouver artist, educator, and occasional curator working in installation, sculpture, and collage.

Ilze attended the Emily Carr institute of Art and Design and completed an MFA from the University of Victoria. She is interested in the narratives that shape the culture of contemporary everyday life and how a culture of mass consumption drives our perceptions and understandings of the world.

Working through a process of bricolage and collage, she uses everyday materials to create sculptural works and installations that explore the tensions around ideas of the natural and the artificial.

Ilze has worn many hats: teacher in public schools, lawyer, education coordinator at a number of public galleries in the Vancouver area, and instructor at the University of the Fraser Valley. Ilze has shown both nationally and internationally and is the recipient of several awards. Her work can be viewed at the Ferry Building Gallery from October 2 to November 2, 2025.
