Artist Statement
I paint to capture the shifting moods of the landscape—light breaking through mist, the glow of a sunset, the way atmosphere transforms a place. Living on Bowen Island, I’m surrounded by constantly changing views, and I’m drawn to the challenge of translating those fleeting moments into paint.
My work is about the effect of a place, the feeling it leaves behind. I focus on color, light, and movement. I paint quickly, often in a single session, working with bold shapes and expressive brushstrokes. Some days, I gravitate toward deep blues and greens; other days, bright yellows or soft pinks. The mood of the painting comes first, and the subject follows.
