Loosen Up & Find Your Perspective: Creative Portraiture

May 7
2–4 p.m

This fun and experimental workshop will take you on a guided journey as you create a unique and expressive portrait. Inspired by the Perceptions exhibition in the gallery, you will explore composition through mark-making, layering, blending, and shading using mixed media such as watercolour inks, paints, charcoals, and pastels. This workshop will encourage playful self-expression and is suitable for beginners. All materials provided.

Cara Guri is a visual artist based in Vancouver, BC. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and has completed a painting residency at Columbia University. Her work has been exhibited in Canada and NYC. In her current painting practice, Cara explores the relationship between identity construction and portraiture. Her works examine the transactional nature of portraiture: the information that is given to the viewer and that which is withheld.
